In Radicofani (SI), on Friday, May 31st, Saturday, June 1st, and Sunday, June 2nd, 2025, the 20th Edition of the Festival of Ancient Crafts (Festa degli antichi mestieri) returns.
During all three days, the event brings to life traditional trades and crafts, with artisans at work, old agricultural machines, reenactments of vintage threshing techniques, vintage vehicle parades, an antique market, traditional games, photo exhibitions, folk songs, live music, and ballroom dancing.
The festival program also includes the opening of food stands — dinner on Saturday and both lunch and dinner on Sunday and Monday — where visitors can enjoy traditional local dishes, including the cazzagnoli, handmade by local women.
These are best enjoyed the traditional way, served with aglione (Tuscan garlic sauce) or meat ragù.
The name cazzagnoli comes from the local verb cazzare, which means to stretch the dough — made only with flour and water — using a rolling pin (called ansagnolo), and then cut by hand with a knife. Interestingly, the verb is also used in nautical terms: cazzare means to pull or tighten a sail.
The event takes place along the streets of Radicofani’s historic center, and admission is free.
