The Carnival is dead… long live the Carnival!
In Marroneto, a hamlet of the municipality of Santa Fiora, Carnival doesn’t simply end with a farewell, it concludes with a playful funeral procession filled with laughter, satire, and a final bonfire!
What happens?
Carnival, portrayed by a young man, celebrates carefree—until suddenly, he falls ill and… dies!
The notary reads his satirical will,
The “hunchbacks” dance around the coffin,
And finally, the effigy is burned, marking the beginning of Lent.
An ancient, ironic, and spectacular tradition that involves the entire community every year!
