On Wednesday 23 September 2026, Montalcino becomes part of the national route of Obiettivo Tricolore, the major Paralympic relay created from an idea by Alex Zanardi and dedicated to the values of sport, inclusion and sharing.
The Montalcino stage will centre on the Fortress of Montalcino, where the Obiettivo Tricolore Village will be set up. The space will offer a chance to discover Paralympic disciplines and will give students, visitors and sports enthusiasts the opportunity to meet the athletes, hear their stories and learn more about a project that crosses Italy carrying a message of courage and participation.

According to the programme published by Montalcino dal Vivo and the Italian Cycling Federation, the relay athletes will arrive in Montalcino from Siena. At the Fortress, a welcome moment is planned with local authorities, students from the area and the Obiettivo 3 athletes taking part in the journey.
For those visiting Val d’Orcia in those days, the event offers one more reason to stop in Montalcino: the Brunello town will host a day combining sport, personal stories, community life and one of the most recognisable historic settings in the centre.
Obiettivo Tricolore 2026
The 2026 edition of the relay officially starts on 21 September from Cervia and then continues through Tuscany, Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, reaching Trieste on 8 October. In Tuscany, the route also includes Poppi, Siena, Montalcino, Castiglione della Pescaia, Volterra and Marina di Massa.
