From 18 to 20 September 2026, the historic centre of Pienza hosts the Corsa di Pio, a Renaissance re-enactment dedicated to the history of the town and to its foundation in 1462.
The event takes place in a particularly meaningful year for Pienza, marked by the 30th anniversary of the UNESCO recognition of its historic centre. For visitors exploring the Val d’Orcia in September, the Corsa di Pio is an opportunity to experience the village not only as a place of art and landscape, but also as a community that renews its traditions.
What to expect
The official 2026 calendar published by the Pro Loco presents the event as a Renaissance re-enactment in the historic centre, organised by Pro Loco Pienza together with local associations. The theme directly recalls Enea Silvio Piccolomini, Pope Pius II, and the transformation of Pienza into the ideal city of the Renaissance.
The setting is formed by the streets and squares of the village, with Piazza Pio II, Palazzo Piccolomini, the Cathedral and the panoramic views over the Val d’Orcia all just a short walk from the events. Visitors are advised to plan their trip a little in advance, especially if they want to combine the re-enactment with museums, walks through the historic centre and tastings of local products.
