The history of Campiglia d’Orcia
The first document attesting the existence of Campiglia d’Orcia is dating back to 973 A.D.
During the Middle Ages this place was under dominion of the Visconti family. Because of its strategic position of the road to France, Campiglia draws upon itself the expansionist intention of Siena and with the latter will be able to have the upper hand of the small fraction around 1234.
From 1423 Campiglia becomes a fief of the Salimbeni family and in 1429 is definitively annexed to the Republic of Siena.
Even today this town preserves the urban settings of the year 1000.
