On 5 and 6 September 2026, Castiglione d’Orcia and Rocca d’Orcia take visitors back to the Middle Ages with Charta Libertatis, a historical re-enactment dedicated to the charter granted in 1207 in Rocca d’Orcia and to its lasting meaning for the local community.
The programme gets under way on Saturday 5 September in Rocca d’Orcia with the opening of the event in the Church of San Simeone, a poetry walk, the Provaccia dei Terzieri in Piazza della Cisterna, a medieval dinner and an evening DJ set in Piazza Unità d’Italia in Castiglione d’Orcia.
On Sunday 6 September the schedule includes a conference in the Church of San Simeone, the departure of the Medieval Procession from the historic centre of Castiglione d’Orcia, the re-enactment at the Rocca di Tentennano, a medieval market in Rocca d’Orcia, the Palio della Tesa and the closing banquets.
For anyone visiting the Val d’Orcia, this is a particularly atmospheric event: it brings together local history, hilltop villages, costumes, crafts, traditional food and the natural setting of the Rocca di Tentennano, one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area.
Before travelling, visitors should check the official channels for any timetable updates and practical information.
