From 28 August to 9 September 2026, Castel del Piano enters the days of the Palio delle Contrade, one of the most deeply felt traditions on Mount Amiata. The central moment comes on Tuesday 8 September, when Borgo, Monumento, Poggio and Storte compete for the Palio in the historic setting of Piazza Garibaldi.
The programme for 8 September includes Holy Mass in the morning, the historical parade through the streets of the town, the afternoon passage through Piazza Garibaldi, the Palio delle Contrade horse race and evening fireworks. In the days leading up to the race, the Palio atmosphere builds through neighbourhood events, trials, ceremonies and traditional good-luck dinners.
For visitors, it is a chance to see Castel del Piano at one of its most distinctive moments: flags, historical costumes, horses and strong local participation turn the town centre into a shared story of identity and tradition. On 9 September, the calendar closes with the traditional fair of goods and livestock.
