From 30 October to 1 November 2026, Castiglione d’Orcia once again puts one of the most representative flavours of the Tuscan countryside in the spotlight: new olive oil. The event is Pane e Olio – Mercatale della Val d’Orcia, an initiative promoted by the Municipality of Castiglione d’Orcia and included in the regional calendar of festivals dedicated to olive oil.
For anyone visiting the Val d’Orcia in autumn, it is an interesting opportunity to bring together the village, the rural landscape and local products in a single itinerary. The Mercatale brings together producers, seasonal flavours and moments linked to olive-oil culture, with the historic centre of Castiglione d’Orcia as its setting.
What to expect
The detailed programme may be updated by the organisers, but the event revolves around new olive oil and the area’s local excellences. The format is that of a slow autumn weekend: a walk through the village, tastings, local products and the chance to discover Castiglione d’Orcia in a quieter period than summer.
Why it may interest visitors
Pane e Olio is suited to travellers looking for authentic food and wine experiences, historic villages and short stops to combine with Bagno Vignoni, Rocca d’Orcia, San Quirico d’Orcia or the other towns in the valley. Its dates, between late October and early November, also make it a useful reference for planning an autumn weekend in the Val d’Orcia.
