Montalcino dedicates the final days of August to a cultural event exploring the relationship between territory, agricultural landscape and local history. From 29 August to 1 September 2026, the town will host the International Workshop on Agrarian History and the Premio Città di Montalcino.
The workshop, connected with CESSCALC, offers advanced study sessions with scholars and lecturers specializing in the history of rural areas. The Premio Città di Montalcino, meanwhile, draws attention to the links between community, environment, settlement and farming civilization, themes that are especially meaningful in an area shaped by agriculture, vineyards and landscape.
For visitors to Montalcino, the event offers a different perspective from the classic food and wine itinerary: it helps explain why the Brunello countryside and the Val d’Orcia have cultural value as well as productive importance.
