The “Festa degli Antichi Mestieri” returns next weekend: Radicofani is ready to take a leap back to ancient peasant traditions!
Everything is ready in the village of Radicofani for the 19th edition of the Festa degli Antichi Mestieri, a consolidated event, organized by the local Proloco, in which the streets of the ancient medieval village that was home to Ghino di Tacco go back at least seventy years.
Anyone, tourists, curious visitors, people passing through and pilgrims on their way to Rome, can encounter at every corner of the village seamstresses crouched on the ground, knife-grinders, barbers, master rope makers, shoemakers, blacksmiths, carpenters, embroiderers bent over to decorate long white tablecloths, tinsmiths, woodcutters, mattress makers and many other figures, played by the inhabitants of Radicofani, busy working in the name of rediscovering ancient traditions. But also open cellars, displays of old agricultural tools and worn black and white family photographs, the collective work of washing with ash, the re-enactment of threshing by hand and with vintage machines, milking and cheese production.
The program includes the opening of the food stands at Parco La Pista on Friday, May 31, with the typical specialty “cazzagnoli” followed by a live concert by Konosenza. On Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, the village will be animated full time in the reenactment of ancient traditions, with unmissable events throughout the day such as the parade of agricultural machinery, the reenactment of threshing, the Fanfare of the Bersaglieri of Siena (Saturday) and the stornelli of Motofolk (Sunday).
The food stands with traditional local dishes will be open for both lunch and dinner, followed by two evenings of dancing with the folk of “Erre sei” and the liscio of “Moreno e Antonella Band”.
