The Palio delle Contrade in Piancastagnaio returns on Tuesday 18 August 2026, at the heart of the celebrations dedicated to Madonna di San Pietro. It is one of the most distinctive events on the Sienese side of Monte Amiata and attracts visitors interested in historical pageantry, local traditions and bareback horse racing.
According to the programme published by the organisers, the historical parade is due to arrive at 4:30 pm, followed by a performance by flag-wavers and drummers. The Carabinieri on horseback are scheduled for 5:00 pm, while the horse race is planned for 6:30 pm at the Parco Tematico Equestre in Piancastagnaio.
For anyone visiting Monte Amiata, the Palio is an opportunity to discover the bond between the town’s four historic contrade, Borgo, Castello, Coro and Voltaia, and a celebration that brings together costume, competition and strong local participation.
The online ticket office indicates access from the main entrance of the park in Via Grossetana, with gates opening at 5:00 pm. Before travelling, it is advisable to check the official channels for any updates on logistics and ticket availability.
