From 31 August to 6 September 2026, Pienza celebrates one of its best-known symbols: pecorino cheese. The 64th Fiera del Cacio brings food, neighbourhood traditions and popular celebrations to the historic centre of one of the most iconic towns in the Val d’Orcia.
The programme published by Pro Loco Pienza opens with rehearsals for children, adults, musicians and flag-wavers. The following days include a briscola card tournament, the Caci&Calici tasting event in Piazza Pio II, the official opening with musicians and flag-wavers, the selection and marking of the cheese wheels used in the game, the neighbourhood dinner and evening events in the square.
The weekend of 5 and 6 September is the heart of the fair, with stands dedicated to tasting and selling Pienza pecorino. On Sunday 6 September the programme also includes the blessing of the cheese wheel and the traditional Cacio al Fuso, the challenge between the town’s districts that turns Piazza Pio II into one of the liveliest places in the Val d’Orcia.
For anyone visiting Pienza at the end of summer, the Fiera del Cacio is a good opportunity to combine the historic centre, local flavours and the atmosphere of a traditional village festival. It also fits naturally into an itinerary that includes Monticchiello, San Quirico d’Orcia, Bagno Vignoni and the panoramic roads of the Val d’Orcia.
